$2 Story
“No one has ever become poor by giving.” — Anne Frank
“Giving does not only preceed receiving; it is the reason for it. It is in giving that we receive.” — Israelmore Ayivor
“Life is an echo. What you send out, comes back. What you sow, you reap. What you give, you get. What you see in others, exists in you.” — Zig Ziglar
The following experience prompted this short story today.
It had been a while since I was able to wash my car. It was actually quite dirty from all the winter driving.
The forecast at the time was probability of rain in the range of 20% but I decided to wash it anyway as my time was crunched.
I drove to a coin operated car wash and asked the clerk if I could have four toonnies.
He gave me 2 toonies and I said that I needed an additional two toonies as I initially requested.
The clerk gave me 2 receipts and off I went to wash the car.
After a few minutes, I completed the wash and was ready to exit the car wash.
I thought that I would check my receipt before putting it away. To my surprise, I noticed that the clerk under charged me in the amount of $2.
Earlier I noticed that the clerk was a new immigrant and a novice at his job.
Anyway, I walked into the store area and proceeded to tell the clerk about the receipt issue.
The clerk said that he realized that he had made a mistake but didn’t want it to affect his new job with his employer.
I told him not to sweat it and that I could pay the additional $2. The clerk replied, “I already placed the $2 in the till.”
I responded, “Well, then. I need to give you a gift for your great service. In fact, here is a free copy of my first book and if you read it and get it, you will be well on your way to do what you were created to do.”
The clerk continued by saying, “I am new in this country and opportunities aren’t readily available for newcomers.”
I said, “There are tons of programs that are available for immigrants and possibly this book might be your ticket to a new opportunity however you must begin to think differently than everyone else.”
“What do you mean?”, replied the clerk.
I continued by saying, “There is a very simple formula for your success in this new land and here it is.”
T + F + A = R
I said, “Your thoughts create your feelings and how you feel about yourself or any situation creates your actions and then ultimately create your results good bad or indifferent.”
“So, enjoy the book and study it several times. Next time that I come here to wash my car, you probably won’t be here any longer as you will be on your new opportunity.”
“BTW, it’s no coincidence that we met each other today.”
Interesting, and it all began with $2.
